How can students use Dolby Atmos to create new musical compositions that incorporate acoustic and electronic sounds?

ACTIVITIES DESIGNED

Fifth House Ensemble serves as artists-in-residence for a semester-long composition project, with curriculum co-developed with Dolby Laboratories staff.

Activities include:  

  • Deep Listening

  • Introductory workshop: in partnership with Dolby, showcasing the possibilities of Dolby Atmos and how it can be used in the composition process

  • Concepting Workshop

  • Revision Workshop

  • Digital Performance

  • Live performance in Dolby Theater in 2022


OBJECTIVES

During this residency, students will: 

  • Develop new compositions that incorporate acoustic instruments, electronic sounds, and spatial audio

  • Collaborate with Fifth House Ensemble musicians to create works created for live performance on digital platforms

  • Implement Deep Listening as a compositional tool, resulting in audience participation and improvisation
