Getting Caught Spelunking

Tell us about a time you were being carefully watched, or a time you were stuck somewhere you didn’t like.  How was everyone else acting? What did you do?

“Alright, so for my story, there was this one time I got caught. And, there are a couple things I don’t do in life anymore. I don’t swim – I had a bad experience. And I don’t like spelunking. Does anyone know what spelunking is? Spelunking is when you go into caves and the walls get thinner, and thinner, and thinner, and all you can do is just squeak in-between the walls – you can’t even walk anymore because they’re so thin. That’s spelunking.

So back when I was in high school, I thought, uh, well this will be a cool idea to go with my friends spelunking. Unfortunately, the leader of the group was the only one with a flashlight on his head. Nobody else had that. So we’re walking in the big part of the caves, and he’s like, “Hey, everybody watch this!” And he turns his light off. Pitch black. You couldn’t see anything – not even your hand in front of your face, it was so black.

So that was a little scary. But then he turns his light back on and then we get into this really narrow part of the cave now. And, uh, it’s getting smaller, and smaller, to the point where you can’t even bend over, you can’t look side to side, you can only go one way, and that’s in. And then my shoe got caught… I have really big feet. And my shoe got caught. And this whole time I’m thinking to myself, “Alright, well I’ll find a way to like, bend over and fix it.” I couldn’t fix it. I can’t bend over; my shoe’s just stuck. And I couldn’t wiggle it out of there either; it was just in the cave, not going anywhere.

Well in the time that it took me to figure out how to get un-caught, my friends and the group leader were kind of going down, and they kept going. And I couldn’t breath because my lungs couldn’t expand anymore so I couldn’t yell at them, so I was like “Guys. Guys. Guys.” And they kept getting further and further away. And the music made me think of like, how lonely it was. And that was the thing that most scared me, was I thought, “oh boy, you know what, I’m going to get stuck here for the rest of my life. And I’m gonna be alone.” And the music is just so quiet and silent, and I was just thinking, “Boy, that reminded me of that time I was stuck in that cave. And nobody was there for me.”
