WEEKLY SPOTLIGHT

Combining Artistic Programs with Residencies - written by Parker Nelson

Our three education residencies will be in full swing as of this week! We've been trying to intersect our residency work with our artistic programming and here are some of the ways we've been able to do that. The most recent example would be inviting our Deborah's Place participants to our Degenerate Art show. This was a great example of how visual art and music intersect and was particularly captivating for the women of Deb's who are 3 weeks into their graphic score residency. Also, all of the women who came were wonderful when it came to participating in our in-concert activities. We can always count on them to be energetic!

We are also planning some exciting series shows in the future based off of some of our educational initiatives from this season. All of our residencies in the Fall used blues music to inform the content of the final projects. Hopefully we'll be bringing you some blues goodness in a ticketed event brought to you in large part by our participants.

Whether its bringing musicians to view the facilities of a center, bringing participants to concerts, or performing alongside one another, we hope to have ever more integration between our concerts and our educational programming. Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting projects soon!

WHERE IN THE FIFTH IS UNCLE TRAVELING MATT?

From the journal of Uncle Traveling Matt:

"When I came to Chicago, I was told that it was going to be cold and to expect to spend most of my time inside. While that has certainly been the case for the majority of my stay with Fifth House, this week is proving to finally surprise me! I was able to soak up some sun after a busy week of travel and get ready for another big performance week!"
